Here introducing you the sweet hummus! It’s a combo of chickpeas, dates, and cinnamon and I must tell you it’s quite divine!
WHY I LOVE THIS RECIPE
- it’s a perfect afternoon snack if you want to hit that sweet spot
- toddler approved
- goes great with fruit, veggies or crackers (a crunchy apple or pear, strawberries or cucumber sticks are my favorite!)
- packed with plant-based protein and fiber thanks to mighty chickpeas
- no refined sugar added
- easy to make
What a winner!
I usually prep chickpeas in large quantity (I buy it dry, soak it and boil it), and make hummus from it, add to stews or keep it as a snack/ a salad extra. It’s easy to put some on a side and prep the sweet hummus. Takes under 4 minutes!
I mostly eyeball the ingredients – you can’t go wrong! Just taste and adjust as needed. Feel free to replace peanut butter to any other nut butter. No nutella on hand? No drama- see my tip below on how to replace it.
Here’s a quick recipe for all you chickpeas and sweets lovers!
INGREDIENTS
- approx. 1.5 cup of chickpeas
- 3 dates soaked in hot water (enough to just cover them)
- 1-2 tbsp of maple syrup (optional)
- 1.5 tbsp of oats
- 1 tbsp of peanut butter
- 1 large tbsp of vegan nutella* (I use this recipe to make it)
- pinch of salt
- generous dash of cinnamon (delicious addition)
- warm water (to thin out)
METHOD
Soak the dates for a few minutes (the longer you keep them in hot water, the softer they become, so easier to blend them). Put dates with the water into your food processor and mix them into a runny fudge/sauce. Once done, add chickpeas and rest of the ingredients. Mix until all smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust to your liking. You may need to add more water to thin it out, depending on the consistency of the sweet hummus you prefer. Dig in!
*If you do not want to use vegan Nutella, replace it with adding 1 tbsp raw cacao + extra 1 tbsp peanut butter + 1 tbsp of maple syrup. You most likely will need extra water to thin it out.
