What does health mean to you?

WHAT DOES HEALTH MEAN TO YOU?

The other week I’ve had a 1:1 coaching session with one of my clients. We are at the start of our journey together and at some point, she asked:

“So, what really is about that health? There are so many definitions and rules out there and there seem to be so many things I ‘must do or need to be’ to be healthy. But what health really is and what should I be doing?”

If you know me and if you know how coaching works, what do you think I told her? Arrmmmhh. Nothing 🙂 Coaching isn’t advice-giving but rather creating space for someone, so they can dig deeper and uncover the answers they might already have (but this topic is for another week!).

I turned it right back at her and asked: “What do you feel health is?”

WHAT DOES HEALTH MEAN TO YOU?

The thing is: health can mean a lot of things and can look a bit different to everyone. Maybe to you to be healthy means to eat fewer takeaways and exercise 3 times a week. And for someone else, it may mean to have a weekend away in nature every month, meditate regularly and a green smoothie daily. Everyone’s definition may be different and I believe that when we think about some of the things as ‘chores’ and things we ‘should be doing’ it can become less of a thing we want to and we will actually do. Does it make sense?

So often making ‘healthy’ a choice, rather than a ‘should’ or ‘a must’, it can make it easier to motivate yourself.

Explore what health means to you

I encourage you to reflect and journal on questions below:

What do I think of health, what comes up for me? What do I see, feel, smell or do?

How important is health to me?

Do I feel healthy right now?

Are there any obstacles that may stop me from being healthy?

When aiming for that ‘health’ I described in question 1, what I might need to do more of?

Or perhaps what I may need to let go of?

Are there some small things I can start today to begin my healthy journey?
