Four Ways to Add More Greens Into Your Day

WHAT IS YOUR WAY TO ADD GREENS INTO YOUR MEALS?

⁣I get it, greens aren’t everyone’s favourite. Their benefits are endless though and you might be as impressed as me learning more. To name a few… :

  • rich in chlorophyll (a powerful antioxidant that helps to keep your cells healthy)
  • plant-based calcium
  • support circulation (hey there, vitamin K)
  • support digestion (fibre)
  • packed with many vitamins and minerals.
  • low in calories and non-starchy, meaning you can enjoy them in many ways throughout the day
  • support immunity (vitamin C)

How does it get better than that? ⁣

I know they can be tricky to add to your meals, especially if the bitter taste isn’t your thing. You know you should be eating them, but somehow you don’t, right?

Here are some easy ways that will help you like greens a tad more:⁣

  1. Add to your soups and curries. It won’t change the flavour, but it will add nutrients and that vibrant colour. You don’t need to cook them; add a few handfuls to a hot cooked meal and stir in gently. Or top up your ready bowl with a handful of fresh greens.⁣
  2. Smoothies are fab for adding veggies into your day. Spinach pairs with almost anything and other ingredients can easily hide the colour or taste (if that’s your wish!). One of my favourite combos is blueberry, kale/spinach, cacao and avocado smoothie. Add a portion of the protein or a couple of spoons of hemp seeds and you’re good to go.
  3. Breakfast with greens. Stir fry gently with tomatoes as a side for your eggs. Or with beans and mushrooms as a warm topping on your toast. You get yourself a decent portion of greens by 10 am! (here, in the photo, my gluten-free buckwheat bread topped with kale and mushrooms sautéed in apple cider vinegar. so yum) .
  4. Add to pancakes. Yes, really. They come out with gorgeous green colour and still taste the same. My kids love them, “aliens pancakes” we call them 🙂 Sprinkle a few blueberries to the batter for 1 extra colour for the day. ⁣

I eat greens at least once a day and over time I find it easy to add them into almost anything. What’s your green number?
