CHOOSE HEALTHY HABITS OVER DIET
I was talking to a friend the other day about healthy eating and fun recipes and then… the D-word came out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How is it that every time we think of healthy eating we associate it with a diet? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Diets can be restrictive and often have zero personalisation. A diet off the shelf won’t address your specific needs and likely, won’t give you the same results as it did for your friend Jane or your neighbour. How about trying out some easy to implement better eating habits instead?
Here’s a list of a few that create a great practice to get healthier daily. They’re no fuss and practical. Don’t get overwhelmed; start small with 1 habit at the time.
- drink 8-10 glasses of water daily
- check in before you eat and ask: am I hungry? if not, what may I need instead?⠀⠀⠀
- aim for 8 portions of veggies daily; it’s around 80g per portion. keep track, do what you can⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- snack when hungry (see above check-in first)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- swap your processed snacks; choose healthy protein and fat & natural foods ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- try a new veggie every week; new flavours and colours will change the way you cook and eat⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- ditch store-bought sauces and dressings⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- pay attention to how you feel after meals ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- every week cut out 1 processed/packaged food from your shopping list- can you find a natural/homemade alternative?⠀⠀⠀
- cease rewarding yourself with food⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- pile your plate with veggies before adding other foods⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- eat until you’re almost full; it takes time for your body to register satiety, so pause before having seconds ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you think? Does it sound easier than ‘can’t eat XYZ, eat the only ABC, count each calorie’ diets?
Is there something new on the list you haven’t tried yet?
