Blueberries: All You Need to Know

BLUEBERRIES: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Blueberries are often ranked number 1 in antioxidant health benefits in comparison to other fruits and vegetables. Those mighty little things are nutrient-dense and are considered one of the best widely available superfoods. Also, did you know that 1 blueberry bush can give even up to 6,000 blueberries per year?

WHY DO BLUEBERRIES HELP YOU BLOOM?

  • steady blood sugar levels- blueberries are naturally quite sweet, but one of the fruits lowest in sugars; it helps with keeping the insulin levels stable
  • may support weight loss- thanks to high amount of fiber and being low in sugars, they are often seen as ‘weight loss friendly’ fruit. Of course, you do need to make sure your diet is balanced and you practice a healthy lifestyle, but these mighty blues may help with adding color, nutrients and fiber to your meals!
  • a great food to support your healthy brain – hello, antioxidants and vitamins
  • may support healthy blood pressure and heart – they have been some studies done on how regular consumption can help with lowering blood pressure, which leads to keeping your heart healthy.

Aren’t they amazing?

How to eat blueberries?

Blueberries are great with oatmeal, yoghurt or in a smoothie. Amazing in muffins and homemade baked goods! Also, pop a few gently squeezed bluerries to your glass of water for a refreshing drink. One of my fav ways to eat them is with porridge or in a smoothie (check out some smoothies here).

Tip on storing: they can ripen fast so storing in the fridge is recommended. Also, that silvery color on the fruit is the plant’s protective layer, so you want to wash them only right before you eat them!
