Are Mental and Physical Wellbeing Separate?

ARE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL WELLBEING SEPARATE?

Have you worked with a coach before? If yes, you might have heard of, or done, a Wheel of Life exercise to take a good look at your overall wellbeing.

What happens in a coaching session is that we look at all areas of life, with consciousness and focus, and we investigate and notice if there are any imbalances. A client usually works through the Wheel in between sessions or, if a client prefers, during a meet up with a coach. Work, social life, family, health, self-care or purpose are usually the areas that are looked at.

As a qualified professional coach specialising in health and wellness, I understand that being healthy is not just about what you eat. You could be drinking green juice every day and eat a bucket of kale for lunch, but your work life may be stressing you out. You might be having sleep issues that manifest themselves in physical or mental symptoms. You might be completely overwhelmed by the lack of time and a daily list of chores that never end. Or, you might be feeling lost after having kids and keep trying to reclaim the things you used to love doing. ⁣

Elements like self-care, self-development, purpose and movement are as equally important to our health as food. Together, they help to create more balance, the whole you. What we eat or do, how we sleep, speak or act – it’s all interconnected. We need to try to start viewing health for what it is: mental and physical aspects of life that are inseparable.
